Today we went to visit the USA Today building in McLean, Virginia. Our guide was Josh Hatch, our teacher and a USA Today multimedia producer. Josh told us that USA Today employees often call the building “the Big Shiny,” and it was soon apparent why. Here’s some captioned photos from our trip:

The lobby of the building. Drop ceilings, suspended staircase, and light pouring in from all sides.

One of the building's several water features.

A stack of newspapers on the photogenic glass shelves.

Josh Hatch talks about USA Today's history and how it was founded in 1982.

The sports section of the newsroom, empty on Saturday. Look at all those toys!

One of the first Apple computer models ever made on display on Josh's desk.

The sound-sensitive interview room. Check out those sound-proof walls!

Web producer Megan Chan. According to Chan, skills we use on a daily basis, like checking Facebook, are applicable to web related jobs.
